Ashley you’re having a smashing year for productions – what’s happening in your part of the world my friend?
Yo man, Thanks ….. It’s been a pretty busy year for productions so far, but it’s always good to be busy
…. At the moment it’s 3 in the morning, just finished a new remix and time to go to sleep only to get up in 4 hours and start all over again! But first…… I think MacDonald’s is calling me for a visit for some unhealthy breakfast!!!!
Straight into it mate – the quick five…
* Where do you come from and where do you live?
I’m from sunny Stoke On Trent in the U.K
* Style that best describes your sound?
New style of progressive trance combined with an electro edge…
* Favourite tune for 2009?
Dr Willis & Junkyard Dog ft Antonia Lucas- Here she comes (David Forbes remix)
* Best gig for 2009?
Sunset in Argentina! (Amazing)
* When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to work in a chocolate factory!
How long have you been Djing and when did you first stumble upon the art of producing?
I started djing from the age of around 8-9 years old so I would say around 11 years or so now. First contact with production was when I was 12 years old when I got my first computer with production software…Happydays
What has been your biggest achievement in your career so far as a DJ/Producer?
There are 2 achievements this year which have stood out. On the DJ side I have always wanted to see how far I could push myself behind the decks and this year I did my first 6 hour set which was unreal. The most energetic but also very tiring 6 hours of my life (so far). On the production side of things it would have to be the video to the tune I did with Andy Moor & Meighan Nealon ‘Faces’. To have a video done for something you have created from scratch is really overwhelming and couldn’t be more grateful really…
Both Ferry Corsten & Markus Schulz have commissioned your skills as a remixer in the past. Any exciting remixes or collaborations in the pipeline we should know about?
Yeah. I have just finished 3 new remixes in the past month which should be coming out very soon. I would love to tell you more about them but I would get shot by the labels! But they are very cool so I’m really looking forward to them. Collaborations… I’m currently working on a tune with Andy Moor again Which is really cool, Andy makes a great cup of coffee also. A collab with Mr Markus Schulz is on the horizon soon also which I’m really looking forward to.
You have worked with Meaghan Nealon on a couple of occasions now. How did all this come to surface and do you have plans working together in the future?
I found Meighan when scanning myspace for hours on end looking for a vocalist for the tune “I Believe “ back in 2008. Ever since then we built up a good relationship and continued to work on other projects. I have no future plans on working with her again which is a shame as she is very talented. But there for sure is some new vocal tunes just around the corner with some new vocalists.
You’re definitely on the radar as one of the producers to watch in the trance circuit of late with the success of your last few tunes. Who are the producers doing the business for you at the moment?
Gareth Emery & Andy Moor. These guys are amazing producers and great friends. They are the people who are also bringing a new sound to the world of EDM. There is a lot of the same uplifting sound these days which will surely die out very soon which is a huge shame on the market. But Gaz and Moor in particular are prooving to be people who are creating a new brand in this industry which is very special.
A few week’s back our Album of the Week was Tiesto’s new long player ‘Kaleidoscope’. What are your thoughts on the crossover movement and what sort of effect do you think it has on trance on a whole? Does it bring new fans to the genre or just disappoint the purists?
To be honest I haven’t heard the whole album as of yet, just a couple of tunes where I can say I’m pleased on what he has done. What people forget is that Tiesto was a brand back in the day. He is the guy who inspired half of the big djs now. Although he has gone of the boil recently he is still a legend. I think by listening to a couple of his new album tracks it will be like Vegemite, You are either gonna love it, Or hate it… Which I think is good because he is taking risks, and risks need to be taken in this business to stand out from the others
