SPECIAL GUESTS

Bobina

Dmitry you have climbed the DJmag poll this year achieving an impressive number 16 – what’s happening in your part of the world my friend?

Well Russia is a very big country – there are a lot of great clubs here where I play in fact every weekend. Trance music is also getting bigger and bigger here.

Straight into it mate – the quick five…

* Where do you come from and where do you live?

I was born in Moscow and still live here. I love this city – guess the traffic is the biggest problem for me in Moscow nowdays. I’m honestly a big fan of the city.

* Style that best describes your sound?

Maximal Electronic Music – somewhere between Electro Trance and Progressive Trance

* Favourite tune for 2009?

HeatBoyer – Happy Ending – rocked every dancefloor I played it. Massive tune.

* Best gig for 2009?

There was quite a lot amazing events during 2009 but the biggest highlight for me is Bobina Extended of course.

* When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Good question… I always wanted to be a tram driver – remember that thing also worried my parents. When everybody wanted to be a Cosmonauts etc – I wanted to be just tram driver.

Your real name is Dmitry Almazov: how did you choose your stage name and why?

Bobina means Real 2 Real in Russian. So long time ago I found it quite funny.

How long have you been Djing and how did it all start?

I first started as producer and when I had 1st tune which started here in Russia – I started to get requests from clubs. That’s why I decided also to be a Dj. It was in the end of 2003.

What has been your biggest achievement in your career so far as a DJ/Producer?

IMO it’s Bobina Extended – the first ever solo event in Russia.

On the 3rd of October you did a massive concert, ‘Bobina Extended’ with loads of big names in the industry, such as Gareth Emery, Elles de Graaf and Marcus Schossow: are you planning to bring this format abroad as well?

Maybe yes – someday it will happen. The event was in Moscow but next year I for sure would like to make it in St. Petersburg as well. But later we’ll think how to make it happen in other countries.

What is the secret behind the Bobina success in Russia and worldwide?

Work, Work and Work again. Guess I didn’t tell you something new :)

What is your favourite track by tyDi?

Hmmm I think the last one… Good Dream!

A few week’s back our Album of the Week was Tiesto’s new long player ‘Kaleidoscope’. What are your thoughts on the crossover movement and what sort of effect do you think it has on trance on a whole? Does it bring new fans to the genre or just disappoint the purists?

In my opinion it’s a bit wrong when deejays starts to discuss each other in the interviews. I think Tiesto does music for people first of all – not for deejays – so its better ask people then. Deejays are not the main listeners – thats what I mean. My personal favorite from the album is “Louder Than Boom”. As for a trance music in general – it changed long time ago and many producers moved from lets say ’standart trance’ – usually I enjoy when I hear really interesting mix of trance, progressive, electro in tunes.

The all important Producers’picks…

* What software do you use to produce?

Buzz, Acid, Cubase sometimes, Sound Forge – Standart PC things:)

* Favourite plug in?

For sure not Loudness Maximizer which producers like a lot nowdays :)

* Favourite Synth?

Sylenth1.
