Straight into it – the quick ones…
* Where do you come from and where do you live?
Im from Sydney, Australia and live in Ibiza, Spain.
* Style that best describes your sound?
Just good house music, I wouldn’t describe it as any style in particular although my roots are in disco house and that’s coming back at the moment, which is very exciting.
* Best gig for 2009?
Techno Parade, Paris was awesome rocking it in the streets of Paris in front of over 400,000 fans.
You are now on a 3 week Australian tour; What’s it like going back to your home country again?
It’s great being back after being away for so long, I’m very fortunate to be able to live most of the year in summer so having a place like Australia to call home away from Ibiza is amazing, catching up with friends and family is always fun.
What was your favourite Aussie gig this year?
That’s a hard one, they were all great but I would have to say playing on the ‘She’ boat party was great simply for the surroundings being on Sydney beautiful harbour and I got to play some classic house which is always a hit.
You have been living in Ibizia for 9 years now. Do you now know all the secrets of the White Island?
* Best beach?
Cala Nova.
* Best time of the year (besides summer) to go?
Would have to be October, still warm weather and most of the craziness is over.
* Best spot?
Pacha, where else!
* Best restaurant?
One of my favourites is ‘Fish shack’, best seafood in Ibiza, try the gambas (prawns).
* Best Spanish dish?
Can’t go past a good paella.
* Some handy sentences in Spanish to survive in Ibiza?
Hola que tal? Dondes pacha? (Hey, how are you, Where is pacha?)
Something you miss about Australia when you are in Europe? Something you miss about Ibiza when you are touring?
Vegemite! I’m always getting friends to bring it too me in Ibiza. I miss my 3 dogs when I’m touring, they are my babies.
Your mixing technique is very refined. You have been awarded as ‘Best Ibiza DJ’. Morillo considers you the best warm up DJ, You mixed a really nice CD for DJmag last year, you mix with 3 decks and you have been doing some tutorial videos for Pioneer. You obviously know your stuff – tell us, what’s the difference between ‘mixing’ and ‘deejaying’?
Anyone can practice and mix but deejaying is more than that, you have to have a connection with the crowd and a love for the music, every track you drop has to have a feeling to it, simply pushing buttons and not playing for the crowd isn’t what deejaying is about. I like to feel at one with the crowd.
David Morales saw you playing once and then invited you to play at his exclusive birthday party at Superclub Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos. That’s impressive!
Dave is great, it was a real buzz being asked to play at his birthday bash, the party was amazing and the surroundings are great, Mykonos is beautiful island.
You hang out with all the big names in Ibiza… pls, can you tell us something funny about Erick Morillo, Angello, Ingrosso, Axwell, and Pete Tong, to name a few?
They are all great mates, but dj’s code of silence! You will have to ask them.
You were on the front cover of Pacha magazine some years ago, then you were the main character on a hilarious Pacha videogame (Pacha World 1.0)… you have been a special guest in the movie ‘Its All Gone Pete Tong’ and now you are in the ‘Pacha Fitness DVD’. What’s else is going on?
It’s all hush hush at the moment but I’m auditioning for a movie soon, i wont jinx it so you will have to stay tuned for that one!
Talking about the videogame Pacha World 1.0. It was released in 2006 and it is a really hilarious videogame in which players can pick their favourite Pacha DJ that is some sort of super hero. How did you feel being a character in a videogame?
Haha such a surreal experience. I never thought I would see myself as a video game character. It is actually really weird seeing it. Was pretty cool but I wonder when they are bringing out the next one.
You mixed loads of Pacha compilations, you also produced some very nice tunes… when can we expect an album by Sarah Main?
It’s in the woodworks. I have been writing a few tracks lately, hopefully between now and next summer I’ll have something out.
The all important Producer’s picks…
